M.A.D.S. – Men Adjusting to Divorce and Separation
Going through a divorce presents one of life’s biggest challenges. Each of the parties lives will never ever be the same. Needless to say a whole host of emotions emerge from anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, to elation. In addition to the preceding one needs to be able to successfully negotiate a myriad of issues such as dealing with an ex-wife, a very slow judicial process, your attorney, the opposing attorney, custody, visitation, and financial challenges to name a few. For too long men have not had a forum where they can derive the kind of educational and emotional support to enable them to better cope with this enormous transition. Now M.A.D.S. can help!
Individuals can benefit from deriving the support of other like minded men who are sharing in similar experiences. In addition attendees will be the beneficiaries of meeting with Bill Solz on a weekly basis. He has very much specialized in stress reduction and trauma throughout his 32 year career, working with individuals and groups. In fact, in 2013 he was selected by NASW as Nassau County’s Social Worker of the Year. He has also led a men’s power and control group, CHANGES!, for five years.
The focus of M.A.D.S. will be to help men learn to cope better with this entire process. Hallmarks of M.A.D.S. will be centered around deriving more support, education, and learning new coping strategies. As such, the program is based on a weekly 12 session model with the group size never being more than 10. Each session will be 75 minutes in length.
Our first Long Island group, located in Garden City, at 377 Oak Street, Suite 201, will begin November 14, at 6:30 P.M., accepting men on a first come first served basis as space is limited. The fee is $800.00 for those who pay in advance for the entire program or $100.00 per session on a pay as you go weekly basis. In other words, those who choose to pay the entire amount in advance will basically be getting the last four weeks at no charge. Admission to the group will be on a rolling basis if there are openings.
Individual 45 minute sessions following a one hour intake are also available for those who may be uncomfortable with the group experience.
